The Michael Cohen Group’s expertise falls into six main practice areas:

Education and Learning

MCG is known internationally for its research on behalf of education. Our firm is currently the principal investigator and evaluation team for the U.S. Department of Education Ready to Learn program. Evaluation activities include the determination of the optimal use of media in education, the creation of a cutting-edge laboratory to explore and understand the impact of emerging media and technology, and the creation of a national university partnership for scientific evaluation studies. Our work has informed the creation and development of core and ancillary curricula for clients such as Scholastic, MacMillan/McGraw-Hill and Disney Publications.

Children, Youth and Families.

With our comprehensive understanding of children youth and families, we work with clients to make a positive—and measurable—difference in children's lives. We have helped develop and test media, educational materials, games and toys, apparel, as well as many other children's consumer products. We have helped our clients connect with children and, we hope, helped children connect with the world. We pride ourselves in giving a voice to children's hopes and needs, and in helping our clients meet children’s needs. MCG’s commitment to improving the lives of children, youth and families has earned us the trust and repeat business of some of the most recognized and important names in children's education, media and entertainment, such as Nickelodeon, College Board, Sesame Workshop, Hasbro and the Jim Henson Company.

Public Sector Initiatives.

An enduring principle at MCG is our commitment to the social good. Whether there is a need to inspire civic participation, better serve a public constituency, or track the effects of a social crisis, we have the methodologies, experience, and passion to serve clients and help them serve the people and the community at large. We are especially proud of our service to the City of New York, its Department of Education, and the mental health community in helping children, their parents, teachers, and counselors cope with the trauma and aftereffects of the attacks of September 11, 2001. Dr. Michael Cohen consulted with Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his administration, the New York City Public Health Commissioners and the New York Board of Education on a variety of issues related to the welfare and recovery of the children and teachers in the NYC school system.

Not-for-profit and Cause-related Marketing.

MCG draws on its experience to aid non-profits—like museums, institutions of higher learning and public interest groups—to better understand their constituencies. We have helped design, develop and evaluate information campaigns, public service announcements, museum exhibits and educational curricula. We have helped organizations, universities and medical centers raise awareness and capital. And we have helped cultural institutions and public broadcasters broaden their audiences and increase participation.
